Combination Floor Systems

Contractors in -for instance- Holland, Belgium and Germany are familiar with this floor system, also known as beam and element floor, or PS system. This system is especially developed to cover hollow areas (such as foundations, cellars and stories) in order to construct a ground- or storey floor.

After constructing the foundation, the concrete beams are easily placed in position by hand or crane. The pre-stretched concrete beams are, depending on the expected amount of load bearing, produced with one, two or three reinforcement steel bars. The type of concrete beam is calculated by NBAB following the drawings presented by the client. Maximum length of the concrete beams is 6 meters.

In between the concrete beams, the EPS (Styrofoam) elements are placed in position. The elements are available in different thicknesses. The best insulating element has a thickness of 350 millimetres, which leads to a Rc 4.5 insulation value. Openings for technical installation, stairs, etc. are already positioned during construction.

Next the steel reinforcement nets are placed and the floor is covered with a layer of 4 centimetres by pouring concrete. Often afterwards a finishing layer is of 5 centimetres is used to cover for instance a floor heating system.

The NBAB package supply contains concrete beams, EPS elements, steel reinforcement nets and positioning drawings.
